Start Me Up!

It's that time again, Astros fans! Grapefruit League is back in full swing, so it is no surprised that I used a popular Rolling Stones song for my post title. In the first game against the Washington Nationals, only three regulars played. Jake Marisnick and Alex Bregman were two of them. Does anyone want to take a guess at which player was the third? That's right, it was your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis!

El Oso Blanco served as the team DH today. In game 1, he only had two at-bats, with no hit in either appearance. He struck out his first trip into the batter's box. In his second appearance, he had a broken bat line out back to the mound. I'll admit, it was not the start that I was hoping for. However, you CDH (critics, doubters, haters) folks can stand down, because you know as well as I do that this was only one game. Also, Marisnick and Bregman didn't get a hit today, either.

As a matter of fact, the ones who came up big today for the Stros were Max Stassi, who is already proving to be the firm choice to be backup catcher this season, and J.D. Davis, whose path to the 25 man roster is already pretty difficult. But he did make his case in game 1, as did Tim Federowicz and Derek Fisher. Both Davis and Stassi had some difference making homers to give the Astros a 3-2 victory over the Nats. I hate to say it, but the depth guys did kind of show up the projected regulars. But again, only 1 game into the preseason, so no one should have any kind of high horse just yet.

Meanwhile, The other half of #BearSquared, Brian McCann will join fellow Georgia boy, Josh Reddick on Monday. Neither of taken live batting practice yet, but both will attempt to this weekend. McCann is taking precautions, as there has been a trend of him getting plunked, and eventually injured, whenever his own pitchers start throwing to him. Speaking of the BMac, the Houston Chronicle did a great piece on him and Gatty just this past Wednesday. I, in turn, analyzed that and my own opinion of why the two will stay here with the Astros beyond 2018. You can check it out for yourselves in the tweet below, readers!
I know many of you will probably get tired of me sounding like a broken record. But let's be honest, with so many armchair GM's out there trying to either trade Gattis or let go of McCann, there needs to be some voice out there that will see reason. As per usual, that voice will just have to be mine. Not like it matters, because I'm pretty good about voicing my thoughts, anyways.

But I digress, these two, along with most of the rest of the reigning World Champions that remain on the team, are poised to make a back to back run. I join the rest of the entire fan base in getting behind these guys with every ounce and fiber of my very being. It's not gonna be an easy road, and really never is. But it is one these fellas traveled long and hard to get that trophy last season. Now more than ever, they know what it takes to win. And they are going to do everything to win it for themselves, AND for the fan base and city of Houston.

It's time for another run at it, and they and we will #NEVERSETTLE!
