And Many More....(Today's Special Post!)
So there may be some of you fans out there wondering, if you haven't found out already, why today's post is more special than any of the others. Well, here is the reason: A certain someone is celebrating a birthday today!
That's right, folks! Your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis, is celebrating his 29th birthday today. So hold onto your party hats! Today's post will be filled with links to video and audio clips, highlights, analysis, interviews, cool pics, and even a surprise bold prediction in store. Yep, that's my way of keeping you locked into your seats for this wild White Bear ride! One that will make all of those haters out there hurl for sure!
So here goes:
Last night, unfortunately, the Houston Astros did lose a heart breaker to the Tampa Bay Rays 9-2. Scott Karmir had, arguably, his worse start in an Astros uniform. But there was one saving grace from all of this. And that is displayed in the following video
That makes #18 for El Oso Blanco on the season. Add to that, the fact that he also tallied another RBI single on the night to push his club lead in that category to 61, take sole possession of 2nd place in the club in homers, and still lead the club and placing 2nd overall in the American League and all of the majors with 9 triples, he continues daily to solidify his place in that Astros lineup. Proving full well how much he belongs!
A fellow fan even tweeted me a prediction that she believes Evan will get his 10th triple of the season tonight versus the Rays. Well @BaseballFanGal, I see your triple and raise you a he's going to complete the cycle tonight on his big day!
AH! EET GATS! GASPS! That's right, haters! I went there, circled the block, and came back around again! How do you like them apples?!
For a throwback feature, I decided to link an Intentional Talk interview Evan conducted back in June of 2013 with Chris Rose and Kevin Millar, back when he was making his debut season with the Atlanta Braves. You can follow the link to that clip here. You'll see first hand the kind of wonderful sense of humor and gratitude he possesses.
Also, another one he did answering live fan questions for Chatting Cage that same year.
Here is a Braves team feature commercial he did to plug himself and answer the infamous "Gattis Facts!" Even back then, he was thinking triples! :)
Now for the clips the Astros fans have been waiting for:
His first interview with MLB Network about spring training and joining the Spacemen!
And to get sentimental for a moment, which those that know me should be used to this by now, a very in depth interview he conducted with Jim Rome of CBS Sports back in May after sweeping the Toronto Blue Jays at home. My favorite quote comes in the final minute of that interview when he offers true inspiration to listeners:
"Just in like a bland version, because I don't know who this person is or whatever, is to not take themselves so seriously, and that nothing is so important that you have to lose your happiness, your sanity over. And to not give up, and to not just accept that things are just gonna be terrible all the time."
That very quote, along with many other admirable qualities, are why I and so many others will always hold this player and this man in the highest of regards. He embodies a true people's champion, and deserves every last bit of success he gets. He also keeps to a humble and generous humility in the midst of all of this fame and popularity, which again, he more than deserves. Even the mistakes he might occasionally make are done with poise and grace.
Evan Gattis offers hope to those that may not have any, or lost there's some where along the way. Or perhaps, for those like me that have their hope and their faith tested rigorously on a daily basis. This is why he is so easy to root for, and to keep rooting for. People want someone like Evan to succeed for many good reasons. The biggest of these being that he has been through a lot of the same, if not worse, things that those of us out of the spotlight have gone through, and found his way out. He relates to us. He gets us!
So keep trying to bring us true fans of his down, haters. Keeping jabbing me and the rest of Evan's fan base with your degrading and hostile language. You will never deter any of us, especially me! Just like Evan said in that interview, I won't give up! I won't accept that things will be terrible all the time. I'll continue to work hard and write hard until I get to where I want and need to be. And not a single one of you haters will ever stop me!
Now, here's something I hope you'll really like: Some cool pics!
Evan returning to the dugout after his 18th homer last night!
Just saying, the resemblance is almost uncanny....
If I had it my way, it would be a national holiday. But in the meantime, it's a bear birthday party post, people! SO LET'S CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES!! COME ON!!!!
