How Sweet It Is!....LITERALLY!
Before I begin today's post, I wanted to start by offering hearts, thoughts and prayers to all of those affected by today. I myself almost lost an aunt, as she was in one of the towers when it happened. Thankfully, she made it out alright, having been close enough to ground level. She did lose a lot of colleagues that day from the Port Authority of New York, however, and I know this day weighs extremely heavy on her.
Diana Victoria Rodriguez, if you are reading this: "Te amo para siempre, mi tia!" May none of us ever forget what happened that day, but to also remember that we are all one American family. Divided, we fall and give victory to our enemies. But united, we stand the victors over anything and everything.
As somber as this day will be for us all, I will now attempt to help us all carry on by bringing you some joy to it by way of talking about America's pastime that we all love....BASEBALL!
The Houston Astros were able to salvage a game against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, winning 11-5 and padding the AL West lead to now 2.5 games following two more losses for the Texas Rangers to the Seattle Mariners. It was a game the team desperately needed coming down the stretch to October.
But the manner in which they won is my focus for today....
Home runs were hit by Colby Rasmus (and his infamous COLBY JACKS!), Marwin Gonzalez, Carlos Gomez and yes, your people's champion and mine, EVAN GATTIS!
Here is a wonderful story from Cut 4 on MLB.com explaining how the night was, quite literally, filled with sweetness....
Evan Gattis put the Astros up 6-0 over the A's with this two-run dinger off the left-field foul pole in the fifth inning:
He celebrated by condemning a family of gummy bears to the depths of his cavernous maw:
… Yep. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound, 29-year-old Gattis ate gummy bears after his home run.
And it wasn't just Gattis. The Astros as a team celebrated their homers Wednesday night with gummy bears, on the way to an 11-5 win. Because … why not? I've never really thought about it, but there's no reason every MLB home run shouldn't be followed immediately with a handful of gummies.
This could be a huge breakthrough in player motivation. Some players -- Carlos Gomez, I'm looking at you -- got really into it.
I mean, everyone loves gummy bears. And it seems fitting that the Astros also tied the MLB record for having the most players reach double-digit homer totals in a season on Wednesday night:
Again -- if you promise players gummy bears after home runs, they're going to hit a lot of home runs.
Of course, a particular still pic of the Big White Bear here....
has gotten some publicity. I will, of course, now feature the positive, non dirty and relatively funny ones that some of you Astros fans came up with. Kudos to all that participated, as few as there were:

The stretch to October is here, and I have a tremendous feeling about these Spacemen. I will actually be seeing them live and in person at the final game of the Lone Star Series against the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park on September 17th! (Next Thursday, for those of you counting.) Perhaps my physical presence may bring em some of that extra spark to get them really going. Hey, I can dream, can't I?

I have a lot of confidence that these fellas are going to head into Anaheim and make a huge statement this weekend! Evan himself already has by being the gracious people's champion he is to some of the local L.A. fans there at a local, where else but, In and Out Burger:
