Better Late Than Never!
Well Astros fans, we had to wait another 24 hours for the 2016 opener to begin. But allow me to be the first to say: IT WAS WELL WORTH IT!
For those that may not have caught the game, the spacemen came out on top 5-3 over the home team New York Yankees. And reigning AL Cy Young winner, Dallas Keuchel, starts the season with a victory and place in the win column. It is a great day to be a fan of the Astros, and by extension to the many out there it applies to, being from H-Town itself. They will finish out two more games with the Yankees before heading over to Milwaukee to face the Brewers, and then home next week to face the world champion Kansas City Royals.
My prediction is this: If the Stros can at least split that first home series against the Royals, they will remain in great shape. Anything less could be troubling, and anything more will just add to the icing on the metaphorical cake. (MMMM....CAKE!) Great! Now, I just made myself hungry. But no matter, it's time for a happy dance!
There was also some good news on the front of your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis. Word came out today that he joined the Double A affiliate in Corpus Christi, the Hooks, and is scheduled to be in the lineup starting on Thursday. Though there is no timetable yet, some sources say that he may be ready to go for that home opener next week.
I think I speak for the entire fan base when I say that some more of THIS is in order....
No matter when it happens, I feel very confident that our Big White Bear champion is gonna come back even stronger than ever before. Let the critics and haters have their time to drool over prospects and speak ill of Evan and such. That time will be very short lived once El Oso Blanco is out of his cave and ready to pounce on all of those that seek to do him or this Astros team harm. And it will be glorious.
Thankfully, he is already getting some work in....
It's only a matter of time, folks. Only a matter of time....
