Brand New Bear!

Today's post focuses on exactly what we are all feeling. And that is the stellar performance of your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis. Ever since returning from Corpus Christi, El Oso Blanco has never looked better. Not only has he gotten back behind the plate for 2 of these last 8 games, but has also been finding ways to reach base and has gotten there in all of the games since his recall.

Let's dig a little deeper into the numbers, shall we?!

At-bats: 11-for-31
Batting Average: .355
Home Runs: 4
RBI: 6
Walks: 3
On-Base Percentage: .415
Slugging Percentage: .790
OPS (on base plus slugging) 1.205

Current 2016 season slash line: .253/.308/771

Imagine how different the slash line would be, if not for the first 20 games. And let's not forget what he has done to contribute and rake in defensively, returning behind the plate in 2 games out of the 8 he has been in as a catcher:

Fielding Percentage; 1.000
Putouts/Total Chances: 25/27
Assists: 2
Double Plays: 0
Passed Balls: 0
*Stolen Bases: 3 >
*Caught Stealing: 0>    ***THERE IS STILL PLENTY OF TIME TO IMPROVE THESE!!!!
*CS Ratio 0%>
Defensive Range Factor: 13.50

The DRF for Gattis, most notably as high as it is right now, indicates that he has called substantially good games for his pitcher, Colin McHugh, both times that he has served as the backstop. Not too shabby for a player just getting back into it. For Gattis, this was like riding a bike. He never forgot, really.

But you see this, sabermetric snobs? I can throw out important numbers just the same as any of you. Try as you doubters, critics and haters all might, you will never break me, and you will never break the Big White Bear. So long as I am breathing, and he's still playing, I will throw numbers, commentary and whatever else I need to do to defend exactly why Evan Gattis is not just a short term solution. He's a long term staple that will be in this Houston Astros organization for a long time. Perhaps, even through the remainder of his illustrious career that is already taking shape in just his fourth major league season.

Those who don't think so....you may want to brace yourselves!

A slugging backstop is just what this ball club needs!
