Bears on Film!

For those of you wondering, YES! I did just paraphrase a popular 80's song by super group, Duran Duran. I have a habit of doing that with a lot of popular culture references. Trust me, you will understand why very soon.

In the midst of the Houston Astros preparing for their first preseason game Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, it was also photo day. And the spacemen where all ready to strike their respective poses. Mr. Deville would be proud of them and the closeups that ensued!

George Springer, Alex Bregman and Ken Giles have even had their photos made into some promotional posters for the team. Being the researching journalist that I am, I've even found a link to a slideshow of photo day pics from the whole team, courtesy of zimbio.com. You can follow the link here.

Personally, I think the spacemen are all looking quite dapper. Even the coaches showed their stuff. Some smiling, some serious. But all around, a space crew ready to reach the stars and get that all important one: A World Series Championship.

No surprise, the two players that were instantly given the most picture attention were Brian McCann and your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis. Bear Squared, the new moniker for the burly catching duo voted on by the fans, were on hand to say cheese, or some semblance therein. MLB.com even came out with a very interesting story about them. It's got nothing on my last blog post, but it is pretty funny and exciting. You can read that one for yourself here.

I have to say, the screenwriter and film lover in me got really excited when they incorporated one of my favorite Disney movies into the piece. Further proof that sports and the arts can live together in perfect harmony. But that's a whole different story all together.

The main takeaway is this: The AL West is going to be some showdown this season. The Astros are clearly going to take it, having the best all around team. However, we cannot ever sleep on our division opponents from the Pacific, or the one right here in the great state of Texas.

One thing is very clear: BASEBALL NEEDS TO GET HERE, ALREADY!!!!

Were Bear Squared brothers in another life? You be the judge!!!!
