The Fault in Our Stars
Some gasping moments came out of Houston Astros Spring Training these past couple of days. All three concern your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis.
First, Hinch told Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle that El Oso Blanco will not be catching for the first 10 Spring Training games as a precaution. Though his right shoulder is feeling better, and he has been seen doing plenty of catching drills, the team wants to be absolutely sure that he is the full 100%. Any games that he plays in that time will be serving as a DH.
Which brings me to moment number 2. This one is not as shocking, but merely, just a buzz kill. The first two Spring Training games this weekend will be away against Detroit and Atlanta. Most of the usual starters, which include the Big White Bear, will stay behind for extra drills and rest. The team tweeted out the following schedule this morning.
Meanwhile, all the projected starters can get some more practice in to nail down all they need to on defense and, for the offense, with their respective swings. Hitting coach, Dave Hudgins will be responsible for these players while Hinch is away coaching the first round of starters. This should make for a pretty interesting weekend in West Palm Beach.
The third moment was another close call, and also one reported by Kaplan from the Chronicle. As left-handed relief pitcher, Tony Sipp was working on his drills and approach with pitching coach Brent Strom, one of his two-seam fastballs plunked Evan in the right foot. Kaplan also stated in another update that while Gattis limped for a bit, he appears to be fine. Yet another too close for comfort moment to happen to our people's champ!
So even though I used the Shailene Woodley drama for my title, it is actually meant to show just how human these players really are. Yes, we will always see them as champions and stars in our eyes. However, it does not make them immortal. They will still have the occasional human fault. But through both their triumphs and their tragedies, it is our responsibility as fans to be there with them every step of the way. I know for sure that I will be.
And as I like to try and end all my blog posts going forward, here's yet another funny attribution to our Bear Squared duo of Brian McCann and Evan Gattis!:

The silver lining in this dark cloud is that most of those highlighted are the ones that will showcase their stuff first so that they can prove themselves worthy of a spot on the 25-man, OR as a means of getting in what playing time they can before the WBC (World Basbeall Classic). The second applies more so to Nori Aoki, who will be playing for Team Japan. I wish those fellas all the best to get those first two W's in the Astros column!Highlighted are the players traveling to the first #AstrosST game tomorrow. pic.twitter.com/L65qa1DlOS— Houston Astros (@astros) February 24, 2017

As Austin Powers would say, "Twins, Basil. TWINS!" I make it absolutely no secret how much these two are my absolute favorite players on the entire roster, and the ones I am looking forward to seeing the most in game action this season. I've been following them since their Atlanta days, after all. And trust me when I say this, Astros fans! You're in for a real treat with these two!🎶 It's like you're my mirror. My mirror staring back at me. 🎶 pic.twitter.com/dxz0DrL9OC— Houston Astros (@astros) February 23, 2017
