Everything's Coming Up Gattis!!!!
So the first full series for the Houston Astros have come to a very nice close, and there is no better way to describe it then to paraphrase a popular song from the Broadway musical, Gypsy. A series victory over their division rivals, the Seattle Mariners, will certainly be just the boost of confidence that the spacemen need in order to keep the wins coming. They'll now open up a 3 game series with the Kansas City Royals before heading to the West Coast this next week to face the Mariners again, as well as make their season debut in Oakland against another divisional rival in the Athletics.
Too add to the happiness, the in-state divisional rival Texas Rangers are currently sitting without a win, as they fell victim to an at-home sweep by the defending AL Champions, the Cleveland Indians. H-Town is all a blaze at the mere fact of that. Yes, it is only 4 games in out of 162. But at this point just last year in 2016, they already had 3 losses. This indicates tremendous progress towards being a playoff contention team this October.
Your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis, even got to play on both Tuesday and Wednesday. After concerns about his playing time were put to rest, El Oso Blanco got to start at DH on Tuesday, and then catch behind Charlie Morton on Wednesday. While he only went 0-for-2 with a walk as a DH Tuesday, he went 2-for-5 with a single, double and another drawn walk on Wednesday. He also scored two runs, including one of the ones tallied when George Springer hit a walk-off 3-run homer to end the game after a whopping 13 innings.
Understandably, this is why Gattis sat out on Thursday, as another chance to get him some much needed and deserved rest. But even only this many games in, it's nice that he got his first hit after only 3 at-bats, as opposed to 23 back in 2015. Posting a 2 game slash line of .286/.444/.429/.873 is a refreshing thing to see from the Big White Bear. Here's hoping that good hitting will only continue with some of those famous long balls sprinkled in!
It even had some of my mortal blogging enemies talking. Like Jason Marbach of SB Nation's "The Crawfish Boxes" online publication. Here's what he had to say:
It is a very refreshing to see anyone from the CDH (Critics, Doubters, Haters) crowd see the error of their ways. Will it last? Probably not. But the first step into recovery is admitting you have a problem. I'm looking in your general direction, CDH crowd! It is not too late to renounce all of the complicated Sabermetric formulas that certain writers out in the sports world try to throw at you to fool you.

It is worth mentioning that Evan Gattis played a huge role in this game. He had some issues blocking pitches, and he had an issue throwing to second on a stolen base attempt early, but his pitch receiving and presentation were stellar tonight and deserve recognition. If his effort level and abilities in that regard persist, it is likely that this writer has penned his last cross word about the burly backstop. It didn’t hurt that Gattis also had a pair of beefy hits on the night, both on breaking balls that he yanked down the left field line, and a key walk in extra innings.

Embrace the true power of El Oso Blanco, and all that he gives to this sport and it's fans! Rejoice in the real truths about him and how key he will be to a World Series victory for the Astros! You will never find another player such as him, though the Astros are stacked with a whole lot of really talented players/men. I did just get a little sermon preachy there for a second, but it's to keep reminding folks out there about the bear, so as to not forget about him.
The early bird does get the worm, after all. Or in Evan's case, the early bear. And he's sure to get a lot of worms because, as it stands right now, everything truly is coming up, GATTIS!!!! Just look at this awesome speed interview conducted by Fox Sports and MLB.com. Who wouldn't want to have the bear on their team? I know I would sign him to a multi-year extension in a heartbeat! Hintity hint hint, Astros organization....
