When Worlds Collide!

I decided today's post would reference the popular industrial metal song by the short lived band, Powerman 5000. The chorus lyric that asks, "Are you ready to go? Cause I'm ready to go." is especially fitting, as tonight is the MLB All Star Game. The American League All Stars will clash with the ones from the National League for bragging rights. The stake of World Series home field advantage was recently removed from the competition, so mostly it will be a talent showcase.

Thankfully, 6 Houston Astros will be apart of the game to represent the American League. Lance McCullers, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer, Dallas Keuchel and Chris Devenski will be the ones to show exactly why H-Town has the most legitimate shot at the World Series title in 2017. Honestly, you couldn't ask for a better group of guys. McCullers even got a shot of all players while practice at Marlins Park was taking place for his Instagram page. Check it out below!

Can we just say how much of a group of studs these guys are right here? I mean, even those of you readers that may not be Astros fans can't deny that sentiment. But Batman didn't stop there! He even took over the Astros Snapchat account last night to capture some more of the midsummer classic festivities live and in person. Just look at the below tweet sent out by the team!:
With Keuchel still rehabbing, he won't really get to play in the game. However, being selected is a huge honor for the beard. And on the bright side, Devo will likely get a chance to come in for relief. All 6 of these guys are gonna rock it out down in Miami this evening. I predict that the American League will be the ones to pull out another solid victory tonight.

The one regret is not seeing the likes of some of the other Astros make it, like Josh Reddick, Yuli Gurriel, and Brian McCann just to name a few. The biggest of these snubs are, without a shadow of a doubt, Marwin Gonzalez. It seems to be the curse of a super utility guy like him that, despite his All Star quality stats so far in 2017, he doesn't qualify for any of the usual ASG positions. The only way he was going to get in was by way of write-in ballots. Try as I and the rest of the fan base did, it wasn't even enough to get him on the top 5 final ballot the week leading up to the game.

It's incredibly heartbreaking for Margo not to be apart of the festivities. And though plenty will come at me for this, your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis should also be apart of this. If nothing else, the Home Run Derby has been something that has screamed for a slugger like him to be invited to over the now 5th season of his storybook career so far. Yes, he may not have the superstar numbers that Correa, Springer and Altuve do. It still doesn't mean he has not put up worthy numbers on the season.

As a matter of fact, slashing .284/.343/.490/.833 in the first half, while having his role significantly reduced, has actually been a complete eye opener. I'll have more on that in my next House of Houston piece, your readers and fans can be assured of that. Needless to say, his role needs to be increased in the second half. A certain Abuelo will need to start giving up some of his at-bats to make this happen. I think you all know with whom I'm referring to.

All venting aside, I wish nothing but the absolute best for this Super Six, as I like to call them, in tonight's All Star Game. One that I am absolutely sure will have some of the most gasp worthy plays ever, and possibly even a slide or two made for the blooper reals. It will be fun, no matter which way you slice it. And these guys are going to make it as fun as possible for all of us. PLAY BALL!!!!
