A Midsummer Night's Dream
So this is another entry that has put me writing here for the first time again in nearly a month. More apologies are owed to you avid readers and supporters. Sometimes, life just gets in the way. But I digress....
I used another Shakespeare reference to highlight my focus of this entry. These past two days have seen both the Home Run Derby and the All Star Game transpire. A big congratulations go out to all the deserving players that got to participate, as well as the Derby Champion, Todd Frazier, and the American League for winning the classic and securing the home field advantage throughout the upcoming World Series.
All of that being said, there is one thing that depressed me about this past midsummer classic, and I think all of you readers out there know where I am going with this. Of all the wonderful players featured throughout the festivities, one more-than-deserving soul was absent for the occasion.
That's right, your people's champion and mine....EVAN GATTIS.
Now, many critics and haters will, as per usual, be quick to label me a whiner and say that Gattis is not the only star baseball player out there. While that is true, it is also true that Evan is more than deserving of being included among the ranks of the Todd Frazier's, Mike Trout's, and Andrew McCutchen's of the world. Especially, considering that he may have actually given Frazier a bit of a challenge in the Home Run Derby, had the league have had the common decency to even invite him to be on the bracket.
And there in lies the dilemma....
From all the hard work ethic and strides, improvement of plate discipline that, in case you didn't know, has put him in the Houston Astros' club lead in RBI and triples on the season while still getting 15 long balls so far and on pace for 30 of those and 100 RBI, team player attitude, upstanding treatment of fans, the media, and others, this great player and equally great man keeps getting excluded from the metaphorical "cool kids table" as it were. Not that Evan needs it, because he is in a class of "cool" all by himself. But the very principle of this being his third major league season, and still no ASG or HR Derby appearance is both depressing and downright absurd!
Anyone that does not believe or support me on this, I refer you to two of my previous posts showing picture proof that Evan Gattis is a more-than-deserving player of being apart of any and all mid summer festivities:

I'm sure Evan himself is happy enough just to get to play in the big leagues, which is just one of many things to admire about this guy. But at the same time, he deserves so much more. And I vow to get him to that 2016 mid summer classic, come hell or high water. But fans and readers, I can't do it alone and will need your help with votes next year to do so. I do truly hope to get it so the people's champ can have his name called next season among the best of the best.
Which campaign flyer do you like best, fans and readers? The first or second? Feel free to vote in the comments, and don't forget to help me stuff the ballot boxes next season! GATTIS 2016! (No, not for president, though that would be ideal!)
