The "Hot Wheels White Bear Triple Machine"

Long enough nickname for you, folks?! Well, it shouldn't be. It's a nice blend of every nickname being called towards the slugging Houston Astros DH. Because this is the exact name that describes Evan Gattis as of late.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Your people's champion and mine just tallied his 7TH triple of the season. Don't adjust your screen! You are reading this correctly: 7TH TRIPLE OF THE SEASON!

Feel free to watch the oh-so special highlight here:

Evan Gattis continues to show off speed, racks up seventh triple of season

Nothing on the field has been more bizarre this season for the Astros than the lumberjack who’s become a speed demon.
Evan Gattis, somehow, by some means, hit his seventh triple of the season Tuesday night in the bottom of the sixth inning against the Angels.
Seven triples is the same number the Angels have as a team this season. (They’re last in the majors.) Seven triples is also the number Gattis amassed in 1,754 plate apperances in pro baseball from 2010-14. He matched that total in just his 380th plate appearance this season.
Gattis’ triple went to left-center and was just short of leaving for a home run against Angels pitcher Fernando Salas. Jose Altuve scored on the play, putting the Astros ahead 10-5.
The carom took the Angels too long to pick up, and Gattis appeared to have no doubt in his mind rounding second base that he’d go for three.
The last Astros player to have seven triples in a season was Michael Bourn, who finished with that amount in 2011.
Since 2000, there have been only two other designated hitters to reach six three-baggers in a season: Johnny Damon (seven in 2011 with the Rays) and Brad Fullmer (six in 2002 with the Angels).

Astros slugger Evan Gattis embracing role of 'speed demon'

He's 6-4 and 255 pounds. He chomps triple-stack cheeseburgers. He has seven triples in 101 games.

Among all the unpredictable feats in the Astros' unpredictable 2015 season, the craziest sight has become commonplace. Evan Gattis barreling a ball, racing from first to second, then safely chugging to third before a throw arrives late from the outfield.

Gattis clocked his team-leading seventh triple of the season Tuesday, during a four-run sixth inning that powered the Astros to a 10-5 victory against the Los Angeles Angels before 24,031 at Minute Maid Park.

The Astros jumped back into a first-place tie with Anaheim in the AL West. Gattis, naturally, tied ex-Astros speedster Michael Bourn for the most triples on the team in a season since 2011 and is tied for third in the American League this year.

"I don't know. It's funny," said Gattis, who had one three-bagger in 213 career games prior to 2015. "I don't really know what to say about it."

Dallas Keuchel did. Choosing his words carefully and pausing to make sure he got every part right, the AL All-Star game starter wrapped up Gattis' weird number and the Astros' fondness for speed in four sentences.

"He's a speed demon," Keuchel said. "He's like one of those Hot Wheels. Is that what they were called? He's a Lambo(rghini)."

Manager A.J. Hinch sees luck. And pure power. And maybe a little sneaky speed.

"If he gets to 10, then we're going to buy a lottery ticket – together," Hinch said. "I want to make sure he buys it. ... As much as I'd like to call it a fluke or something that is unforeseeable, he just keeps tacking on his team-leading seventh triple."

If Hinch and The White Bear go in together, Gattis' father should get a third of the ticket. Before Gattis drilled reliever Fernando Salas' offering to deep left-center field, Gattis' dad suggested No. 11 play the real numbers.

"Out of the blue," Gattis said. "He said, 'Yeah, you should probably play the lotto, too.' But whatever."

Hinch insisted postgame the Astros don't have to make a statement against the Angels. They've done so for 101 contests. They won't back down now, with 61 to go.

In a crazy, perfectly upside down year for the 2015 Astros, Gattis' seven triples say it all.

"It's hilarious," Gattis said. "I'll joke about it in spring. Like, 'Do I look fast?' and stuff like that. But, naw, it's been fun and I'll take 'em."

Evan Gattis is known for his power and hitting - not necessarily his speed.
Despite that, Gattis inexplicably picked up his seventh triple of the season on Tuesday night in the Houston Astros' win over the Los Angeles Angels. Maybe it's due to the funky dimensions of Minute Maid Park, with its jagged edges and Tal's Hill in center field, but for whatever reason he's found a way to increase his career totals in triples from one (1!) to seven (7!) so far this season.
As quoted by Chandler Rome of MLB.com after Tuesday's game, manager A.J. Hinch is impressed with Gattis' apparent speed - so much so, in fact, that the two will press their luck if the 6'4", 240-pound hitter picks up three more this season: "If he gets to 10, then we're going to buy a lottery ticket -- together. I'm going to make sure he buys it."
Considering it isn't even August, it seems likely that Gattis will somehow, someway find himself three more triples before the year ends.

This is exactly what makes this player and this man so special. He does all of this with humbleness, humility, and graceful poise. Not only does he know this game, but plays it, and plays it well! He doesn't show off, he doesn't boast, and he doesn't have sour attitudes to anyone about anything. He gets his job done with a smile on his face to all of those around him, and most especially to all of his fans and support system.

You see folks, Evan Gattis is a perfect example of how nice guys don't always have to finish last. In his case, he is doing anything but. He is winning this race, quite literally. And when he crosses the finish line of his MLB career when all is said and done, including a hopeful trip to Cooperstown, I vow to be one of the first ones there to root for his triumphant victory, of which he already has so many.
