The Four Week Mark
Some good news out of Grapefruit League, as the Houston Astros have the 3rd best overall record in spring training with a 5-2 column. These fellas are running right through the competition, and picking up where they left off.
Someone else picking up where he left off is, you guessed it, the REAL people's champion, Evan Gattis!
Today marks exactly 4 weeks since his hernia surgery, and everything is, as the old saying goes, coming up roses for the Big White Bear. Brian McTaggart of MLB.com favored us with this article about Gattis getting his check up and talking about moving forward. Additionally, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle explains in this piece about how El Oso Blanco just may be able to get some work in behind the plate this spring, barring any health setbacks.
To add on to the good news, A.J. Hinch received an extension and raise from the team, and yours truly begins Spring Training as the 3rd top most MLB News correspondent on FantasyPros.com:
Of course, getting to update on Evan throughout the season on the site has great advantages. Like my most recent update article on him here:
Unfortunately, today did not come with all good news. In fact, I got shaken up twice this morning between a very close call tornado threat near Fort Worth, and receiving news that an old and dear friend of my teenage years passed away a few days back at the tender age of 31. The realization of mortality has hit me like a ton of bricks today, and it compels me to tell you all this:
Take nothing for granted. Cherish everything, and especially EVERYONE that you have while you still have them. Nothing is a guarantee in life, except for the two things we all despise that I won't even dignify to mention. Hug your family, friends and children. Let them know they are loved. After all, as a wise John Lennon once said, "Love is all you need."
Anyways, enough of my soap boxing. It's time to keep living life and experience all of the good things about it. Including our favorite sport, baseball, and the fellas that make us enjoy watching it. That includes, most especially, this Houston Astros ball club with your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis!

EVAN GATTIS TO TAKE BATTING PRACTICE ON THE FIELD WEDNESDAY
As reported by official MLB.com beat writer, Brian McTaggart this afternoon, designated hitter Evan Gattis has reached his four week mark since surgery and will be getting an official doctor check up today. He is ahead of schedule in recovery, and is slated to take batting practice on the field Wednesday. McTaggart even got word from A.J. Hinch that the skipper is wanting to re-introduce Gattis to catching later on in Spring Training. (Brian McTaggart of MLB.com)
Fantasy Impact: This news comes as welcome for all involved. Gattis was already doing some light drills two weeks removed from the surgery, and has not had any real traumatic setbacks, minus the occasional pain. If this progress continues, and strong indications are that it will, the team's designated hitter will soon see some Grapefruit League action here in the next little bits of time. The additional news on possible catching will also only increase Gattis' value coming down the stretch. Fantasy holders are highly encouraged to re-think Evan Gattis as a roster option over the course of the next few weeks.
