Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (Players, That Is!)
Readers, beware! You're in for a scare! I'm channeling my inner R.L. Stine and the love I had for his Goosebumps book series back in the day. Although, I used the title of one series of films that I have never really cared for in the first place. But stay with me! Like everything else I write and reference, it will all make sense in the end.
Between the painful recovery of getting a wisdom tooth pulled, the uncertainty and anxiety surrounding the election, and the off season not having officially started yet in MLB, there have been plenty of things scaring me as of late. Fitting, because today just happens to be Halloween. And while kids and their parents will be going door to door trick-or-treating, I'll be stress eating treats in the hopes that no tricks will be conducted this winter with the off season moves.
The Houston Astros have already stressed some of there most dire needs. Starting pitching seems to be at the top of this list. Follow that closely by the first base situation and the talk surrounding catcher, and it is going to make for one anxiety filled winter once the World Series concludes by no later that this coming Wednesday. That is, of course, if that all important game 7 is needed with a series tie, and Cleveland does not clinch the title tomorrow night.
Not surprising, the biggest thing I will be watching is what happens to your people's champion and mine, Evan Gattis. Will the Houston Astros organization finally give him his due shot at being starting catcher, assuming Jason Castro elects free agency? Do they keep him the same capacity as last season being a backup catcher and a DH? Or does the unthinkable happen that sends him to another team, causing yet another real life American Horror Story® for those among his strongest support system, including myself?
The problem here is, these questions are going to take weeks, and in some cases months, to answer. In the meantime, as if walking through a haunted house, you just have to pray that you come out alright and in one piece on the other side. Even the slightest thing that goes bump in the night could have a lasting effect on the future that not everyone can come back from. Let us all hope that this Houston Astros team will be spared any move that fills the players and fan base up with too much terror.
