Baseball Media & Beat Writers: The Ultimate El Oso Blanco Bullies!

Mark Bowman, like other beat writers and media folks it seems, continue in their "Dump Gattis, Start Bethancourt" stint. Aren't fans at all tired of it by now? Or has Bowman and others succeeded in duping fans into believing that Evan Gattis is only good enough as a bench DH in the American League? Anyone that believes that are on something serious. One bad health year, and everyone thinks it's gonna be a trend? It really sickens me!

Beat writers and baseball media are the biggest bullies of Evan Gattis I have ever seen. Constantly trying to play mind games with him, and giving the Braves organization bad ideas. If anything, The Uptons need to be traded together. I can do without either of their attitudes poisoning up the clubhouse, even if Justin has a hot bat. Sell high, remember? Extend Gattis and have Bethancourt back him up, or trade Bethancourt.

I don't care if I am in the minority in this sentiment, but Bethancourt is far from being ready to be a starter. More passed balls than Gattis, as many throwing errors as Gattis, and a mediocre .242 BA tells the tale of the supposed "Braves catcher of the Future." Hardly a defensive gem, and a player that will NEVER have the power bat that Evan Gattis has.

You can seriously get away with giving Gattis around $4-6 mil/year for the next 4 years of team control the Braves have over him and have it not dip so badly into the payroll. Of course, not that I would EVER try to low ball Evan, because he clearly deserves all that he can get. You know you'll make up for it by what Evan does alone for the Braves marketing department and the fans with the Oso Blanco merchandise, appearances, etc. He is CLEARLY a draw, and far from being a money grubber like some players. He still deserves better and more decent pay, which the Braves should make more of an effort to hold onto someone good they already have, rather than trade said player away for some grand return they THINK they can get.

Plus, we know the results Gattis actually provides, if anyone even bothers to look at the actual defensive numbers on him. We already know about his bat, but he also had the same overall fielding percentages as Buster Posey of the San Fransisco Giants, whom are in the World Series, and Russell Martin of the Pittsburgh Pirates, who at least made it to the post season. If the Braves seriously want to use Evan Gattis of all players as a trade market sacrificial lamb, then IMHO, they deserve to lose. Just saying....
