Braves Fans Are Turning Into Oso Bullies Too! (Or....Picture Proof That He is the LAST Brave that Needs to Be Traded!)
It's a shame to me how the Braves fans, in May, were calling for Evan Gattis to represent the Braves in the All Star Game. He gets hurt and goes on a couple of DL stints beyond his control, and all of a sudden, everyone is calling for him to be run out of town. What has happened to Braves Country turning their backs on Oso Blanco? Why, instead of getting the recognition he deserves for bailing the club out too much with his lone offense in a nice chunk of games, are Braves fans making him the subject of trade sacrifice and unnecessary ridicule?
Where am I getting all of this from, you ask? Simple; Braves message boards. Some of the things said on their about Evan, quite frankly, make me sick to my stomach. Some people think I'm overreacting, that Evan has a tremendous sense of humor, and he would find some of this stuff funny. While that may be true, I refuse to stand idly by and watch one of the best things to happen to the Atlanta Braves become the subject of taunt and bully by fans. I've been bullied enough in my life to know that this unacceptable behavior on any front, and I am determined to make it stop.
Some examples of things said about Evan, if I may....
1. "Glass Man Gatty" - My most hated of all things said about him. A couple of bad luck health issues, and suddenly everyone believes him to already be at his peak? This is absolutely absurd and is in no way an indicator of any kind of supposed trend. His offensive value isn't going anywhere for awhile. Anyone that has actually watched him play and play hard like he does would know that.
2. "Oso Long in the Tooth" - Seriously? Last time I checked, 28 is not old by any standards, including baseball. This whole myth about how players, especially catchers, fall off the face of the earth when the clock strikes 30 is utterly preposterous. He's young, is at least working to stay healthy, and still knows how to treat those around him. To me, that makes him far from old. Perhaps fans are jealous of his maturity and the fact that he doesn't want to pick a fight every time someone hits him with a pitch? Seems likely.
3. Referring to fans as "The Bear Lovefest" - Sorry to disappoint some of you out there, but in the midst of all of this trade targeting and hurtful language, someone needs to show him love. So why not his loyal bear fans? Can we say "Jealous Much?"
Rest assured, when Evan is extended by the Braves, (and I fully believe he will be) you can bet that I will be in full gloating mode to those apparent haters of the White Bear. Evan always gives us fans something to look forward to and hope for on AND off the baseball diamond. Anyone who is not smart enough to see that doesn't know him, or this game at all.
Just Saying Braves, You really wanna lose HIM?....
Hey look, it's his twin separated at birth. LOL
I know who would win this duel! GET HIM, EVAN!
Enough of a sense of humor to laugh at himself.
What he gives back to the fans cannot be denied!
The known raw power of his bat.
The admiration of his teammates.
His serviceable defense that he has vowed and shown to work harder everyday to improve, along with the unmistakable chemistry with Craigzilla!
He and Free know the game!
More of what he gives back to fans!
Even fans in Philly love him. Come on!
Evan visiting a nearby children's hospital in Greenville, SC. He's a gem to the kids!
Evan chatting with young guys in one of the farm system camps in the Caribbean. He advised them against juicing and steroids. A class act all the way!
Evan at an anti-bullying rally at a local charter school. I mean, he clearly needs to stay on this roster!
He even signed a "Resolution of Respect" to help combat bullying, prejudice and hatred. You really wanna get rid of him? Ugh!
John Hart and the Braves Organization: I would seriously think twice and then some before trading El Oso Blanco if I were you. The proof is in the numbers....and the pictures!
