Flying the Victorious "W"
It's been over a century in the making. A 108 year drought without a single baseball championship. And now, the long awaited day has finally come. Ladies and gentlemen, your 2016 World Series Champions are, in a history making announcement, the CHICAGO CUBS!!!!
But I also have to give some serious props to the Cleveland Indians as well. You all fought your way through to the very last game 7. And in the process, you gave folks a renewed interest and love of the game. You may not have gotten the top prize, but being American League pennant champions is a great start. Not to mention, you still have Lebron James and the Cavs, so there are still plenty of reasons for you and the Rock n Roll capital of the world to be proud of yourselves.
To both teams, thank you for giving America a solid and edge-of-our-seat series to close out the 2016 MLB season, This will be a fall classic for the record books, in ratings and intensity. As much as this Astros fan hates to say it, both of your clubs will be giving the rest of the league some serious fits for a while. But speaking from experience, as a forewarning, you've got an incredibly hungry Houston Astros team that looks to factor into the championship mix as well. I'm even willing to stake now that you both will see them at some point in the 2017 post season.
So yes, Chicago and Cleveland, bask in your achievements, because both of you have earned them. But just know this, defending your respective titles will not be an easy feat. You have 28 other teams and fan bases looking to come after those trophies. And it all starts in 3 months, when Spring Training begins. Until then, to the victor go the spoils!
Cubs country, this is your time to shine! Coming from this Astros fan, your team and city have long since earned this. Granted, Mary McFly was a year off in the Back to the Future film. However, the important thing is that this is really happening for you. To be down 3 games to 1 and come back to not only stave off elimination, but win it all as well, is nothing short of amazing! The coming parades and celebrations will, no doubt, be one for the ages throughout the Windy City. All of us baseball fans, collectively across most team bases, stand one with you!Today is our day. #FlyTheW pic.twitter.com/F3yTo6gjcA— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) November 3, 2016
