The 2017 Mentality: Why I Have a Problem With It

I've heard it said way too much this off season about how the Atlanta Braves need to "rebuild for 2017." There is only so much of that talk I can take before I need to step in and explain why this is a bullshit mentality to have.

1. No team that consistently wins championships fire sells. Look at the San Francisco Giants. They know which players to lock down, which ones really can be traded, and which ones they can simply let go to free agency. If they had a player on their team like Evan Gattis, they know how much of an impact he creates, and would do everything in their power to lock him up for the amount of team control years they have on him. Budgets be damned!

2. The business of baseball, whether anyone likes it or not, very much involved selling tickets, merchandise, autograph appearances, etc. If you don't hold onto the players that give you such a draw, like Gattis, you risk a substantial fan backlash. And what will you do then when a good chunk of your business suffers like that?

3. True fans of this ball club want them competing NOW! Not two years from now for a fancy new stadium that no one really wanted in the first place, but RIGHT NOW!!!!

So to sum up Atlanta Braves, you had best be doing what you need to compete now to keep from a huge dip in the fan base. And it all starts....

With Keeping Players Like HIM!!!!
