Rumble in the Desert This Week

Starting tomorrow, the first GM meetings for MLB happen in Scottsdale, Arizona, a first of many this off season. So what does it mean for the future of the Braves?

Two things:

1. Ervin Santana has until then to accept his QO (qualifying offer) from the Braves. If he accepts, he will make 15.3 million next year with the club. If he declines, he is available in the trade market. If signed to another team, the Braves will receive a compensatory draft pick.

2. Trades will officially begin. John Hart and John Coppolella will be at the meetings to represent the Braves, and will likely listen to offers by other clubs given to them to obtain the services of possible pieces Jason Heyward, Justin Upton, and yes, EVAN GATTIS. If these men feel that the bid is high enough, any or even all of the listed players could be on a different team next season. God help us all!

If I can offer anything to John and John, it's this: Don't be fooled into taking such a gamble with these players, most especially Evan, who is not costing you hardly anything off the payroll, and yet still puts up veteran numbers. He is also your biggest fan favorite draw, and you will risk a serious fan alienation and backlash if you go through with sending Evan away.

Please Hart and Coppolella, DO NOT sell Evan Gattis to the highest bidder! He makes the Braves better already, and both of you know that!
